MICAH 6:8 SMALL GROUP

CHRIST CHURCH UNITED METHODIST

WELCOMING STATEMENT

MICAH 6:8 SUNDAY SMALL GROUP

"He has told you, O man, what is good; And what
does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to
love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

The Micah 6:8 Class is a community in which we seek to Open:
Our Hearts to each other;
Our Minds to truth; and
Our Doors to everyone.

OPEN HEARTS

We believe that the love of Christ has the power to open every heart to every possibility.

OPEN MINDS

We believe that open minds are made possible by the love of Christ having first opened our hearts. We strive to keep our minds open to the truths that can be learned through scripture, tradition, experience and reason. Open Hearts and Open Minds can keep us open to all the sources from which truth can be made evident.

OPEN DOORS

Open hearts cause us to want to open doors to all whom we love. Open Minds cause us to reject the artificial distinctions which closed hearts erect among the children of God. We pledge to keep our doors open to all who would seek to love God and their neighbor.

WELCOME

The doors to our community are open without regard to race or national origin, age, health or infirmity, sexual orientation or gender identity, marital status or economic condition. We feel ourselves to be immeasurably enriched by all who bring their open hearts and open minds to our fellowship.

E-MAIL FROM DR. STRUNK

Purpose

The Loving Through Our Differences sessions will give our church family the opportunity to learn and practice the art of Holy Conversation about the various views people understand, believe, feel and experience about homosexuality and the United Methodist Church.

Why Have a Holy Conversation and Why Now?
  1. Our Mission as a church that is becoming living proof of God’s love, one person at a time, invites us to be a place where our church family can have holy conversation with people of diverse points of view.
  2. The Culture around us is changing as more and more states are legalizing gay marriage.
  3. The General Conference of the United Methodist Church will again take up this issue at its 2016 session. Every four years since 1972, the General Conference has wrestled with the issue of homosexuality, including gay marriage and ordination. In the upcoming session, some are calling for the General Conference to consider splitting the church over this issue.
When, Where and Who?
  • Tuesdays from 6 to 8 pm - January 13, 20, 27 and February 3 in Fellowship Hall
  • Each session will include a presentation of material from a variety of presenters, and a time for smaller group holy conversations.
  • Presenters include Bishop Lindsay Davis, Dr. Charles Brockwell, Matthew Burgess, Bill Higgs, Dr. George Strunk, JustPeaceUMC leaders Stephanie Hixon and Dr. W. Craig Gillaim.
